Joshua Ayton (He/Him)
Provisional Psychologist
MProfPsych

I have completed my Master of Professional Psychology at the Australian National University, and I am deeply passionate about supporting people to reach their potential. As someone with lived experience with neurodiversity, I have been encouraged by practitioners who have neuroaffirming practices and foster psychological safety. I love stories and am intrigued by how someone's experiences, challenges, cultures, and achievements shape who they are. In my role here at Spark for Life Psychology, I want to work with people to take hold of their own stories and choose where they want the next chapter of their lives to take them. I’ve previously worked as a support worker across different settings and as a residential advisor supporting the mental health and wellbeing of individuals in a community setting. My favourite part of these roles was helping people achieve their goals and watching them thrive.

More About Josh:

From a young age, I have been interested in human behaviour, and have been drawn to listening and helping others. Most of my time studying at school was taken up by subjects analysing how human behaviour impacts the world around us, like history, social sciences, and the arts. I continued these interests into university, where I settled into psychology and never looked back. I loved to fill my time with listening to friends who may be going through a tough spot or working as a support worker. Studying psychology over the past years has made me appreciate the uniqueness of the human experience. Through this, I am motivated to help clients find practical, compassionate ways to feel safer in their bodies, kinder in their thoughts, and more connected with their communities.

Something people wouldn’t guess about you: I love films and the dramatic arts. Particularly, I was the guy who actually liked studying Shakespeare. I try to live each day by a simple phrase: "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none."
