Fees and Referrals

Spark for Life is committed to providing quality service at affordable rates.

Counselling and Parent Support

The current fee recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) is $251 for a consultation of 45 to 60 minutes duration. Spark for Life offers a reduced fee of $210 for counselling sessions to ensure a financially viable service for families.

A doctor’s referral is not necessary to access counselling services. However, for individuals seeking a Medicare rebate, your General Practitioner (GP) is required to make a referral via the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, medicare rebates are online available for online telehealth services for those living in remote regions. This will require your GP to prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan allowing a Medicare rebate for up to 10 counselling consultations per calendar year.

If you are not eligible for a Medicare rebate, some private health insurers offer a rebate, depending on your level of cover. You may wish to contact your insurer to enquire whether you can claim for psychology services and whether this applies to telehealth services through your private health insurance ancillary cover.

For more information there is an Australian Psychological Society Fact Sheet available online as well as a Mental health Medicare items FAQ section.

For families and individuals experiencing genuine financial hardship, a further reduction in price may be available, please call to discuss.
